The Philadelphia Eagles, in collaboration with Verizon Wireless, will on Tuesday kick off their campaign to raise funding for Philadelphia-area shelters and to increase awareness for domestic violence.

At a Verizon Wireless SMART store on Bristol Pike in Bensalem Eagles, tight end Brent Celek will join in the ribbon-cutting and sign autographs after.

Verizon and the Eagles in the month of April will support the “Pass Along Hope” campaign by soliciting donations for no-longer-used cell phones to regional Verizon Wireless stores. The cell phones, in most cases, are donated to women’s shelters and women in need who may not be able to afford cell phones. All cell phones can dial 911 in case of emergencies.

Community members are encouraged to donate phones and also, share personal messages of hope on Twitter using the hashtag #EaglesVZWHope.” For every phone donated and every tweet shared, Verizon will donate $1 to the HopeLine program, which supports area domestic violence organizations and shelters, according to a news release.

The kickoff event starts at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at 1301 Bristol Pike. Celek will sign autographs at 11:45 a.m.

Also in attendance will be Rob Miller, Philadelphia tri-state regional president of Verizon Wireless, Bensalem Township Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo, Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Eagles cheerleaders and Swoop, the Eagles mascot.
