Yorkshire Terrier injured in fatal Queens shooting still recovering from neck wounds
A dog wounded during a deadly shooting in Queens on Saturday is still recovering from his injuries, the ASPCA said Tuesday.
Police said Jack, a 6-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, was shot with his owner Carolann Matyka by her 86-year-old father Jack Calvello on Saturday morning.
Calvello called 911, saying he shot his daughter and planned to turn the gun on himself. Around 11:15 a.m., police found Calvello in his Astoria home holding a shotgun and asked him to drop it from the two-story apartment. He was fatally shot after pointing the gun at police.
Jack was still being treated at the ASPCA Animal Hospital Tuesday for “traumatic wounds to his neck” but his condition was stable, according to the organization.
The ASPCA were unable to comment on whether or not Jack would be put up for adoption.
