Family of slain Danvers teacher Colleen Ritzer speaks out in video
The parents of the Danvers High School teacher who was raped and murdered released a video yesterday speaking out about their loss and thanking the community for its support.
Colleen Ritzer, 24, was murdered in a bathroom in October, allegedly by her 15-year-old student, Philip Chism.
In the video, Ritzer’s mother describes the months since the killing as “a period of great pain and sorrow.”
“Each day presents new challenges but we are blessed by the support of family and friends. Through the many acts of genuine kindness to honor our daughter and sister, our spirits are lifted. Though difficult, we strive to follow Colleen’s words to find good in every day,” Peggie Ritzer said.
Tom Ritzer, Colleen Ritzer’s father, expressed gratitude for people’s support of a scholarship fund created in his daughter’s name. Yesterday, about 3,000 people participated in an Andover 5K fundraiser to support the memorial fund.
