NYPD: Man sprays MTA bus driver in the face with mysterious substance
A city bus driver was sprayed in the face with a mystery substance while driving his route this weekend in Manhattan, police said Monday.
The MTA driver stopped the BX12 bus on the corner of Isham Street and Sherman Avenue in Inwood at about 3:50 a.m. Saturday when a man approached his window from outside.
The man sprayed the unknown substance at the driver before fleeing west on Sherman Avenue, police said. Surveillance footage captured the suspect flailing his arms as he ran from the bus.
The driver’s eyes were irritated after the incident. Police said there were no passengers on board the bus at the time of the assault.
Police describe the suspect as Hispanic, approximately 20 years old, and 5-foot-7 with a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, black jeans and white sneakers.
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), submit a tip online or text 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577.
