West Philadelphia boy, 14, arrested for beating woman, 67, in wig store
A 14-year-old boy was charged with beating a 67-year-old West Philadelphia wig store employee in late April, police said.
The juvenile, whose name is being withheld because of his age, walked into the Wynnfield Judy Wig store on the 1900 block of North 54th Street about 7 a.m. Tuesday and demanded money from the worker, police said.
The boy confronted the woman in one of the boutique’s narrow aisles and demanded money. When she attempted to dial 911 on her cellphone, the boy shoved her into a glass display case at the front of the store and then he punched and kicked her until she hit the floor, and then he continued the assault.
The same boy is suspected of stealing $70 from the same store’s register on April 29. Police said that the woman had chased the boy from the store during that first encounter.
The woman was treated for minor injuries.
Police spokeswoman Jillian Russell said the boy was charged with aggravated assault, robbery and related charges.
