Not even a flooded basement and wrecked street will keep famed Katz’s Deli and its pastrami sandwiches down.

The area around East Houston and Ludlow streets were inundated at around 11 a.m. Thursday after a water main burst in front of the delicatessen, flooding its basement with more than 12 inches of water.

Two other buildings were affected by the flooding but the city was able to shut off the water supply before noon, cutting service to the entire block of businesses — including Katz’s.

Even so, the deli took to Twitter to say no one was hurt and that they remained opened for business.

The 20-inch water main, installed in 1959, will be excavated and replaced by late Thursday, according to the Department of Environmental Protection, which expects to restore service by the end of Thursday.

Once the water receded, the block was left with another problem — a massive sinkhole opened up in the middle of the busy Manhattan street. Officials said the sinkhole measures around 20 inches in width and 12 inches deep.

The city hopes to fill the sinkhole and repave the street by the end of Friday.

While the area had seen some construction work lately, authorities declined to speculate about the cause of the water main break until they can take a closer look a the broken main.
