VIDEO: Wawa charity collection box robbed in Northeast Philadelphia
A Northeast Philadelphia Wawa caught a customer earlier this month on surveillance video stealing from a charity collection box, police said.
Police released video Wednesday of the thief who entered the Somerton store, at 151 Byberry Road, on May 13 at 3:15 p.m.
The thief, described as a 40-year-old man with blonde hair and blue eyes, hovered around the register while absent-mindedly paging through a magazine. He then began to take several stabs at unlocking the clear plastic Children’s Miracle Network Charity Box, which sat off to the side on the counter.
After successfully unlocking the box, he removed the inside trey that contained about $100 in change while the cashier was distracted, tucked it underneath his magazine and casually left the store.
Anyone with information is asked to submit a tip via 215.686.TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847.
