George Jung, a Weymouth native and inspiration for the movie “Blow,” has been released from prison after a 20 year stint for cocaine smuggling.

TMZ reports that Jung, 71,  has been released to a half-way home on the West Coast.

Actor Johnny Depp performed along side Penelope Cruz in the hit 2001 movie, which chronicled Jung’s rise and fall in the cocaine world. According to TMZ, the film made Jung famous as the trafficker “responsible for roughly 89% of the cocaine smuggled into the country” during the 1970s and 1980s.

IMBD describes the biopic as “The story of George Jung, the man who established the American cocaine market in the 1970s.”

The drug tycoon was released early from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey; he was due to be released in November.

In the YouTube clip below, an imprisoned George Jung is interviewed by “Blow” director Ted Demme.

“You said ‘We got a guy named Johnny Depp,’ and I said, ‘Who the hell is Johnny Depp?’ I waited a long time for him to show up, I got pissed off about that, and when he got here I fell in love with the guy,” Jung says in between puffs of a cigarette.
