Code for Boston coder breaks down MBTA by service on Twitter

Calvin Metcalf, a volunteer developer at Code for Boston, is making life a little easier for Twitter users who are loyal to specific lines on the MBTA.

At a hackathon over the weekend for the National Day of Civic Hacking, Metcalf created Twitter accounts for each MBTA subway line, commuter rail line, ferries and specific bus lines, so that passengers who only take those lines can follow those accounts without having their Twitter feeds cluttered by unnecessary information.

It was a natural project for Metcalf, who is also the man behind Twitter’s @MBTA_Alerts account, which shares real time information on T service to its 17,000 followers.

“I’ve been curating [@MBTA_Alerts] for nine months, and I also ride the T a lot,” said Metcalf. “My biggest inspiration was the fact that I mainly care about the subway line and buses I ride, not all of the MBTA.”

Find your line:

Red Line Alerts: @Red_Line_Alerts

Green Line Alerts: @GreenLineAlerts

Orange Line Alerts: @OrangeLineAlert

Blue Line Alerts:@BlueLineAlerts

MBTA Bus Alerts: @mbta_bus_alerts

The full list of MBTA service alert accounts is available on Twitter.
