Riders on the much-maligned G train can expect to get a boost starting Monday.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is expected to increase G train service in the afternoon and evening rush hours, easing the daily commute the 125,000 people who ride it every weekday.

Straphangers can expect trains to run at regular intervals, new public announcement systems at 12 stations across the line and new signs to warn riders exactly where the four-car train will stop at platforms.

The changes are a result of a 2013 review by the MTA after local lawmakers joined with transit advocates by Riders Alliance to improve service.

“Today the G rarely means the beginning of a great ride,” said state Sen. Daniel Squadron in a statement.

Squadron and fellow state Sen. and Martin Dilan jointly requested the recommendations from the Riders Alliance, which were included in the final report.

After a series of petitions, rallies and even a parody exercise video titled “G Train Workout Plan,” members of Riders Alliance said they were happy to hear about the planned improvements.

John Blesso, a Riders Alliance member who lives off the Broadway G Train stop, called it a “solid first step.”

“The G train is increasingly becoming a major artery for Brooklyn and Queens residents,” he added, “and we need to make sure that service keeps up with ridership on the line.”
