Gov. Andrew Cuomo continues to dominate polls over Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino, according to a new poll.

A new Siena College Poll showed the incumbent governor with a 36 percentage point lead over Astorino, a Westchester county executive looking to unseat Cuomo.

However, a majority of those polled — including 70 percent of Republican voters — did not know of or had no opinion of the GOP nominee.

One of the central themes to the GOP candidate also showed to falter with the poll. While Astorino argues Cuomo’s administration ran the New York State into the ground, 40 percent of those polled said the state was just as good as it was four years ago.

Meanwhile, a majority of respondents also gave the governor higher favorability (63 percent from 57) and job performance (49 percent from 45) marks than a poll in April.

“Half of voters see Cuomo as a moderate and, by a two-to-one margin, voters see him as a pragmatic, rather than partisan, Democrat,” wrote Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.

A majority of New Yorkers polled said they agreed or are leaning towards Cuomo’s positions on a litany of issues, including the controversial gun control laws passed in 2013, the DREAM Act to give children of undocumented immigrants access to aid for college and medical marijuana.

In fact, medical marijuana polled favorably across the board. Sixty two percent of respondents said they want New York to join the 20 states already on board with the policy.

The only demographic to disagree self-identified as conservative voters — 56 percent of whom oppose medical marijuana.

The poll questioned 835 New York State registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
