NYPD: Student, 14, dies after stabbing outside Bronx middle school
A teen was in custody after a 14-year-old student died in a stabbing outside his Bronx middle school on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
Timothy Crump, of Hunts Point, was found with multiple stab wounds to the body around 3 p.m. outside of I.S. 117 Joseph H. Wade Middle School at 1865 Morris Ave. in Morris Heights, police and education officials said.
Crump was rushed to Bronx Lebanon Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.
Police said a knife was recovered from the scene.
The suspect, a 14-year-old boy, was taken into custody and police said charges are pending. It was not immediately clear if the suspect was also a student at the middle school.
Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña expressed her condolences to Crump’s family in a statement. She said grief counselors will be dispatched to the middle school tomorrow to support students, teachers and staff.
“We are devastated to lose one of our children like this,” Fariña said.
