Free, but limited, WiFi coming to New York City airports
Passengers at New York City airports will have access to free — but limited — WiFi service this fall, officials said.
Fliers at four area airports, including JFK, LaGuardia and Newark, will get 30 minutes free service from Boingo Wireless as part of a new agreement approved by the Port Authority’s board of commissioners on Wednesday.
After the first 30 minutes online, passengers can purchase more WiFi time at hourly, daily or monthly rates. Currently, service costs $4.95 per hour, $7.95 per day or $9.95 per month at area airports.
Port Authority officials said fliers have consistently asked for free WiFi, prompting the new arrangement. The deal also calls for connectivity upgrades and improvements at the airports.
The upgrades, which will increase internet speed and enhance connections, are expected to be completed in the fall.
