Bronx day care worker arrested after 20-month-old boy dies
Police arrested a day care worker late Saturday after investigators found a 20-month-old Bronx boy died while under her watch.
The toddler, identified as Cardel Williamson, died on Friday after police responded to apartment operating as a licensed day care center in the Claremont section at around 2:20 p.m.
Authorities said they arrived at the apartment on College Avenue to find Williamson in bed struggling to breathe.
Officers at the scene had attempted CPR and rushed the boy to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center. Doctors, however, declared Williamson dead on arrival.
On Saturday, police reclassified Williamson’s death as a homicide after the medical examiner’s office investigated the case, prompting police to arrest 40-year-old day care worker Athena Skeeter.
Skeeter, who lives in the same building as the day care operation and Williamson’s family, faces both manslaughter and child endangerment charges.
The exact cause of Williamson’s death was not immediately available.
