Forbes releases Youngest Billionaires list (and Zuckerberg is not on top)

Of the world’s 1,645 billionaires, the youngest isn’t a straight white male, as it has been traditionally. Nor is it someone who works at Facebook or Google. The world’s youngest billionaire is Perenna Kei, a Japanese woman who has a very large stake in Logan Property Holdings and a sizeable family trust fund.

This is Kei’s first time making Forbes’ Youngest Billionaires list, which names the 31 billionaires under 40.

Also on the list are Facebook head honchos Sean Parker and Mark Zuckerberg, of course, as well as WhatsApp founder Jan Korum. Zuckerberg has a net worth $28.5 billion, proving that despite all the talk of Facebook fatigue, the company is still going strong 10 years after its launch. Dropbox co-founder Drew Houston also made the list, owing to the massive success of his sixth startup.

Outside of the tech world, 29-year-old Anton Kathrein Jr. made the list with the success of his family’s antenna manufacturer company, Kathrein-Werke AG. A family business is also what landed Marie Besnier Beauvalot on the list. She, along with her siblings, inherited her family’s dairy company, Lactalls, which specializes in Brie, milk and yogurt.

Thirteen of the 31 billionaires on the list are from the United States and are mostly involved in technology or real estate. Outside of the U.S., there is Albert von Thurn und Taxis, the 12th prince in his family line and real estate mogul. This eligible bachelor lives in a castle in Bavaria. Yang Huiyan, 32, is also one of the non-American billionaires on the list, and also one of the few women. She resides in China, where she oversees the real estate company Country Garden. In the Middle East is 33-year-old Fahd Hariri, the son of former Lebanese Prime Minster Rafik Hariri, who was assassinated in 2005. Hariri left Beirut after his father was killed and lives in Saudi Arabia, where he works in real estate.

Family money is, not surprisingly, a big factor in getting placed on the list, but as the startup moguls on this list show, sometimes it just takes some good old fashioned hard work paired with one brilliant idea to lead you to a billion dollars.
