Gabby Giffords moved to rehab hospital
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was moved to a long-term rehabilitation hospital yesterday morning after doctors upgraded her condition from serious to good.
Giffords has entered The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research at Memorial Hermann, where she will begin what may be a months-long rehabilitation process.
“Since arriving at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center on Friday, Jan. 21, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has made strong progress in the Neuro ICU,” the hospital had announced in a statement late on Tuesday.
“This evening, her doctors upgraded her condition from serious to good and determined that she is ready to move to TIRR Memorial Hermann.”
Giffords, 40, suffered a gunshot wound to the head at close range Jan. 8 when a gunman opened fire at an event where she was meeting with constituents. Doctors have described her progress so far as akin to a miracle.
Jared Lee Loughner, 22, is charged with the shooting.
