Your other Valentine may be waiting online

If you’re going to have an affair, don’t make rookie mistakes.

It won’t just be married people sharing Valentine’s gifts today. Many will be hiding a guilty secret — they’re having affairs. It’s a busy time for the have-an-affair website AshleyMadison.com, as CEO Noel Biderman relates:

I want to have my cake and eat it, too — I want to remain married, but I fancy a little fun this Valentine’s Day. Tips, please, on how to play away without getting caught?

Around here, we tend to celebrate the day before Valentine’s Day — affectionately known as Mistress Day — and the day after Valentine’s Day, which is one the busiest days of the year on AshleyMadison.com. I guess a lot of people miss the boat on the actual day and so their partners wander off.

What are the most common mistakes people having affairs make?

By far, the most common mistake is initiating an affair in a place where they are bound to get caught: the workplace, a singles’ dating site, Facebook.

Tell me a story of an affair with a happy ending.

I heard from a member whose wife had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for a number of years, so with the permission of his children he joined Ashley Madison and found someone who understood what his situation was and his ongoing affair has allowed him to “live” once again.

Who is your most active member? How many affairs did he or she have going on at once?

One woman on The Tyra Banks Show described how she met 100 lovers on Ashley Madison. On the other side, we had a male member spend over $10,000 in one year communicating with almost 200 women.

Is it ever too late to have an affair? How old is your oldest customer?

When we originally built AshleyMadison.com, we only thought of allowing searches for people up to 65 years of age — until one day I had an e-mail from an irate customer who told me his profile was not appearing in search results.  Sure enough, when I checked he was indeed correct — because he was 78 years old!
