The ‘Occupy Wall Street’ kids finally got naked (NSFW)

Props for a gender-neutral protest, though!

There comes a time in every protest when attention dwindles and
something drastic must be done. For the kids camping out in the
Financial District this week, today was that time.

After almost a week, a few of the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters found a simple way to get passersby to pay more attention to them this afternoon: Doff their tops. The bare-chested activists enjoyed the unseasonable warm afternoon, while chanting slogans they had clearly thought up before decided to get naked: “We can’t afford shirts!”

Ignore the sign that says “We didn’t say look / We said listen”; the point of a protest like this clearly is to get people to look. And that’s OK. In capitalist terms, the protesters are using one of the high-value resources at their disposal (naked college flesh, a generally scarce asset on Wall Street) to get attention after the market for their previous resource (the novelty of a bunch of people camped out in a park) collapsed under a glut of supply. What this means for the long-term health of their industry, though, is not not that good, though.

Also, we still can’t explain why that kid is wearing a “Kevin Bacon” t-shirt holding a “Kevin Bacon” sign. (We’re idiots.)
