The mysterious ‘Misha speaks,’ Tsarnaev widow investigated

Federal investigators visited the Rhode Island home of Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s widow, Katherine Russell, today as part of its ongoing investigation of the Boston Marathon Bombings.

Russell, who lived with Tsarnaev and their 3-year-old daughter in Cambridge, is said to be “doing everything she can to assist with the investigation,” according to her lawyer.

The 24-year-old grew up in North Kingston, R.I., and attended Suffolk University. She married Tsarnaev in 2010.

FBI agents have reportedly also interviewed “Misha,” whose real name is Mikhail Allakhverdov.

The Rhode Island resident, 39, has been credited by the suspect’s uncle as the influential force behind the dead terror suspect’s radicalism.

“This person just took his brain. He just brainwashed him completely,” Ruslan Tsarni told CNN last week.

Allakhverdov was also interviewed by the a New York Review of Books Christian Caryl, who said today that Allakhverdov denies ever being Tsarnaev’s teacher or encouraging violence.

“He began telling me he cooperated with the FBI” and had handed over his computer and cell phone,” Caryl told CNN yesterday.

“I wasn’t his teacher. If I had been his teacher, I would have made sure he never did anything like this,” Allakhverdov told Caryl.

The suspects’ mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, said in an interview last week, “Everyone is talking about Misha now. When Misha visited us… he just opened our eyes really wide about Islam. He is devoted, and he is a very good, very nice man.”

In other developments, a judge today appointed California-based Attorney Judy Clarke to represent Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. She has represented unabomber Ted Kaczynski and Tucson shooter Jared Loughner.
