Two girls charged in cyberbullying suicide of Florida 12-year-old
Two girls, ages 12 and 14, have been charged with felony aggravated stalking in connection with the suicide of a 12-year-old Florida girl who was bullied online, the Tampa Tribune reported on Tuesday.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said it would release details of the arrests later today.
Investigators said Rebecca Ann Sedwick of Lakeland, Fla., became despondent after being bullied for months by a group of girls who posted online messages telling her “You should die,” and “Why don’t you go kill yourself?”
On Sept. 9, Sedwick climbed a tower at an abandoned cement plant and jumped to her death.
