George Zimmerman arrested in Florida after disturbance call
George Zimmerman was arrested Monday at a home in Apopka, Fla., a town 15 miles northwest of Orlando. Police responded to a disturbance call at a house, reports the AP. Dennis Lemma, chief deputy with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, told CNN that Zimmerman was charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence battery and criminal mischief. He allegedly pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend at her home, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office said. Zimmerman, 30, gained notoriety after the controversial 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman said he shot the black teenager dead in self-defense. The case sparked a nationwide debate on race and gun control. Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges.
Zimmerman has had several run-ins with the law since his acquittal, including a domestic incident with his then-wife in September.
