Kohl’s is mislabeling rabbit fur as faux-fur, says The Humane Society

Kohl’s department store may be selling rabbit fur and labeling it as faux-fur. The Humane Society of the United States said that independent laboratory testing confirms that a few items labeled as “faux-fur” were in fact made with real rabbit fur.

Investigators from The Humane Society tested a few different styles of Nicole Lee Fabiola label handbags, which were labeled as having faux-fur trim. But lab testing determined that the fur came from a rabbit.

In a statement released by The Humane Society, Pierre Grzybowski, research and enforcement manager for the Fur-Free Campaign said, “Consumers should be aware that animal fur is still being sold as ‘faux’ by major retailers – in this case Kohl’s.”

The Federal Trade Commission Act prohibits “unfair or deceptive acts or practices” and violating these rules can result in fines of up to $16,000 per violation.

Kohl’s would not be the first store to mislabel real fur as faux-fur. Neiman Marcus, Dr. Jay’s and Revolve Clothing are just a few of the retailers that have been penalized for selling animal fur as faux-fur.

Kohl’s did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
