Family calls 911 after violent cat holds them hostage

Nobody puts kitty in the corner – except for maybe the police.

A fat cat tried to show the family who was in charge when he attacked his owners in Portland, Ore., forcing them to hide in a bedroom, reports FOX 12.

It was the purr-fect storm on Sunday after the fierce feline attacked the family’s baby, Jesse, and owner Lee Palmer kicked the cat in the rump. That’s when Lux, who weighs 22 pounds, decided to strike back and turn on the hands that feed him. Palmer and his girlfriend, Teresa Barker, and their son, Jesse, hid in the bedroom, but every time they opened the door, Lux would try to attack them again. Finally, Palmer called 911 to ask for backup.

Palmer told the dispatcher, “He’s trying to attack us. He’s very, very, very, very hostile,” and said the cat had “a history of violence.” Unfortunately, the family’s dog was unable to rescue them.

The Portland Police Bureau released a statement, saying, “The 911 operator stayed on the phone with the caller to ensure the family, including the dog, remained safe in the bedroom as the cat screeched in the background.” The baby was not injured.

Officers brought a dog snare in case it had to take the feline offender away. They used the snare to grab the cat and put it in a crate, though naturally, Lux struggled and ran away into the kitchen. The family was then able to take control of their home again. The Portland Police Bureau said of the incident, “The cat remained behind bars in the custody of the family, and officers cleared the scene and continued to fight crime elsewhere in the city.”

The family kept the cat, and it is apparently camera-shy: Lux hid under a blanket when the Fox 12 crew came to the family’s home.
