Watch these 7 videos using emojis to creatively express music (Roundup)

Those little characters that we use to represent our emotions (or passive-aggresion) via text messaging and chat are now stars of music videos.

Emoji means “picture letter” in Japanese and seems to be the new short-form  way many people communicate to express their feelings and keep conversations brief.

With dozens of characters to choose from, visual artists, sand musicians have incorporated emojis in their project.

1. Jesse Hill’s emoji remix of Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love”

Jesse Hill, a commercial video producer from Austin, Texas  created a video of Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” and it’s gone viral. In a interview with Vogue, Hill mentions he got the idea to create the video when he was texting a lady friend while the song was on “ just to show her we were listening at the same time.”

2. Jesse Hill’s emoji remix of ”Sanctified” by Rick Ross (featuring Kanye West and Big Sean)

After much success with the Beyonce video, Jesse Hill turned it up a notch with this all-emoji interpretation of “Sanctified” by Rick Ross.  followed that video with another viral hit.

3. Oneohtrix Point Never

In this video for “Boring Angel,” director John Michael Boling uses emojis to show heavy emotion in the song. Insert sad face emoji.

4. Katy Perry

Katy Perry has a lyric version of her hit song “Roar.” The emojis were animated in this video and the video feels like fun text conversation.

5. The Manx

This might be straying off course, but this video for the song “American Business” features a mixture of live action with emoji characters. According to their Youtube description, it is considered the “very first live action mini movie music video!”

6. Dillon Francis ft Simon Lord

In his song “Messages” produced by music collective Mad Decent, features a trippy array of emojis floating across the screen. It makes you feel like you’re ready to go to a rave.

7. RKVC

Want to impress the person you have a crush on? Maybe emojis could do the trick This fun pop rock duo used emojis to express their feelings for indie pop singer Ingrid Michaelson.  How sweet.
