Captain America will now be portrayed by a black character
One day after Marvel revealed Thor will now be portrayed in the comic book series by a female character, it announced an African American man will carry Captain America’s shield.
Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada announced on The Colbert Report Wednesday night that Sam Wilson, who in the comics is known as The Falcoln, will now assume the iconic role.
According to the series storyline, the notorious Steve Rogers lost his powers.
The first issues that feature Wilson, the first African American character to portrayal the ultimate patriot in its history, will hit stands in November.
On Tuesday Marvel announced on ABC’s The View Marvel that the comic book giant’s “God of Thunder” will be a woman in the comics moving forward.
Tom Brevoort, Marvel’s executive director, told the New York Daily News that ‘it’s about time.”
“In 2014, this should be a thing that we shrug off, it shouldn’t be seen as revolutionary, but it still feels exciting,” Brevoort said.
In the movies, however, actor Chris Evans will continue to portray the super solider.
