Letter: Katy Perry’s wealth gives her no right to feelings

Re: ‘Don’t mock Perry’s dark thoughts’ (Metro, Oct. 2)

As somebody living with major depression, I’d like to point out that the fact that Katy Perry lives in the inherently distorted world of the top-selling pop star, which means that she has access to resources and a support system that the rest of us just will never even dream of having, which enables her to move the heck on when something as common as divorce hits.

I feel Word columnist Dorothy Robinson’s response was appropriate about Katy because Hollywood types who live in the big bubble of celebrity tend to bounce back, while some of us like myself never even have a chance of getting into a single relationship.

Katy Perry should in fact thank her lucky stars that she was a pop star getting a divorce rather than an “average” person. If she were like the rest of us, she might have a more legitimate cause for suicidal depression.
