Letter: A beast of a perception problem
The rationale behind employment or insurance based on obesity seems to be that employers (and society) perceive it as a lifestyle choice. Given that it has significant genetic factors, however, it ultimately comes across as a similar move to penalizing those with a family history of cancer.
If we really want to penalize for choices that cost money and shorten livelihood, we should target the consumption of animal products, with overwhelming evidence that this choice leads to increased disease.
