Letter: A question of fundamentals
Re: ‘Parties don’t disagree on civil rights’ (Metro, Nov. 27)
Letter writer Darrell Hartwick mentions that the Democratic and Republican parties do not differ on the topic of “fundamental civil rights.” I’m guessing that Mr. Hartwick believes gay marriage is not a fundamental right since it appears that the majority (if not all) Republicans do not agree with this.
If race and religion is a fundamental civil right, then you would think sexual orientation and the right for a person to marry a man or a woman would be just the same, but it is not.
