Letter: Reports on Kerry not balanced
Re: ‘Kerry is reluctant “star” of spoof by Israeli settlers’ (Metro, Feb. 7)
Twice in one week Metro focused on Israeli criticism of Secretary of State Kerry’s peace proposals. The latest article detailed a YouTube video by a private Israeli settler group that spoofed Kerry. Meanwhile, for the past few weeks, senior figures in the Palestinian Authority have bashed Kerry’s ideas as “dangerous” and “extortion.” Anti-Kerry protests in Ramallah and Bethlehem have been frequent, with chants of “Kerry, you coward, you have no room in Palestine.”
The PA does not allow dissent, so these protests were approved at the highest levels. It seems Metro, Reuters and other news services think it unimportant to report on the problematic nature of Palestinian politics. I think it’s important that mainstream news consumers get a more balanced picture.
