Letter: Gay should be normal, too
Re: ‘Orientation is serious,’ ‘Everyone should get their say’ (Metro, June 17)
Letter writers Richard Feinberg and M. Hull are missing the point entirely. Gay and transgender people aren’t rubbing any movement in anyone’s faces. They don’t want to feel like they’re special or different. They simply want to be treated as equal human beings (rather than something like subterranean mole people), but society is far too bigoted. It’s important for these people to announce who they are so others are inspired to do the same. Hopefully, this will change society so that one day, being gay or transgender will be as uncontroversial as being straight. Nobody is forcing you to like people that are different from you, but nobody is forcing you to be around them either.
