Would you quit stalling!
This one’s impossible to avoid.
Angel Pagan, an outfielder on the woeful Mets, had an “incident” this week. The Phillies were pummeling the Mets (again) and Pagan was supposed to be in the on-deck circle. Instead, he was in the clubhouse. When the batter ahead of him walked, Pagan was nowhere to be found. The umpire wondered what was going on. The crowd got fussy.
Pagan finally raced to the plate and grounded out. Then, his coach pulled him from the game.
“I told the trainer, I have to go to the bathroom,” Pagan told reporters. “When you’re up fourth in the inning and you have to do that, it’s just not fun.” Pagan had a closed door meeting with manager Terry Collins after the game.
The whole debacle reminded me of the movie, “Parenthood.” When you’re sliding into home and your pants are full of … well, you get the gist.
You can’t do that on campus.
By now you’ve heard about the Yahoo! Sports investigation into Miami’s athletic program. A booster is going to prison for operating a $930 million Ponzi scheme, allegedly showering college athletes with cash, prostitutes, entertainment on his yacht and other stuff the NCAA deems “illegal.”
The prostitutes part was surprising. Nevin Shapiro claims he would invite athletes over to a party at a hotel and have dozens of hookers there. Why would football players at one of the top programs in the country need prostitutes? In South Beach? All the college athletes I’ve been around never had problems getting women.
