Wyatt named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year

Temple v Butler
Wyatt led Temple and the entire Atlantic 10 in scoring this season by averaging 19.9 points per game.

In one of the most expected end-of-season awards, Khalif Wyatt was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Tuesday. Wyatt becomes the first Temple player to earn the honor since Pepe Sanchez won it in 2000.

Wyatt, a Norristown native, led the Owls and A-10 in scoring by averaging 19.9 points per game. He has scored 30 points or more, including 30 last Sunday against No. 21 VCU, in five games this season.

“I really don’t know what to say right now, little overwhelmed,” Wyatt said. “It’s an award that really should go to my teammates and coaches for helping me all year and sticking with me, and just trusting me, so I want to thank my teammates and my coaches.”

Temple, already considered a lock by many to qualify for the NCAA tournament, will play in the A-10 tournament Friday night. The third-seeded Owls have a first-round bye. They’ll play winner of Massachusetts-George Washington.

Joining Wyatt at the awards podium are:

» Ramon Galloway, La Salle: Earned first-team, all-conference
» Tyreek Duren, La Salle: Named second-team, all-conference
» Ronald Roberts, Saint Joseph’s: Earned third-team, all-conference
» T.J. DiLeo, Temple: All-Academic
