The Phillies dropped their season opener in Atlanta Monday night, 7-5.

Cole Hamels surrendered three home runs to Braves batters in his first-ever Opening Day start.

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, who played in only 83 games in 2012 due to knee injuries, was 3 for 5 for the game with a home run, a triple and three RBI. The home run was the 200th of Utley’s career.

Freddie Freeman, Dan Uggla and Justin Upton hit home runs for Atlanta to pace the Braves to their Opening Day victory.

Hamels gave up five earned runs over five innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Braves starting pitcher Tim Hudson only lasted 4 1/3 innings in picking up a no decision. Luis Avilan was credited with the win after working 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Braves closer Craig Kimbrel picked up his first save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
