T.O. wants to play for Patriots, Brady wins big at Kentucky Derby

Two bits of Patriots news from the weekend, which involve a big name and some relatively big money.

First, former NFL star receiver Terrell Owens wants to play for New England, as in the actual sport of football. Owens hasn’t caught a pass in an actual NFL game since December of 2010. The 39-year-old attempted a comeback with the Seahawks last season but was released just prior to the start of the regular season.

“I think that’s a no-brainer,” Owens told BlindsideFootball.com about playing for the Patriots. “You look at what they’ve done over the years. Under the tutelage of Tom and Coach Belichick, I think the sky would be the limit in terms of what I’d be able to do. Considering my body of work and my history of playing the game.”

Owens was spotted playing catch with Brady last month at the University of Southern California, which led many to believe the mercurial receiver might be on New England’s radar.

“We happened to be on the same field at the same time and it obviously created a big buzz with the two of us being on the field throwing the football around,” Owens said to BlindsideFootball. “There was really nothing organized about it as far as me trying to get with the Patriots or him pursuing me or anything like that. It just happened to be us being out there on the same field at the same time.”

Brady attended the 139th Kentucky Derby and won big on Orb. It should be noted that Brady is far from a horse Nostradamus, considering Orb was the 5-1 favorite when the race began. That didn’t stop No. 12 from shrieking like a school-girl after his horse crossed the finish line. Brady reportedly bet $4,700 on Orb and earned a $25,000 return.

Celebrating with him are former Patriots Tedy Bruschi and, interestingly enough, jettisoned receiver Wes Welker, who hops on the pile late.
