Red Sox come from behind, defeat Twins 3-2

For the second straight night the Red Sox came from behind, this time for a 3-2, 10-inning win over the Twins in Minnesota Friday night. It was also the third straight win overall for the team.

The Red Sox trailed 2-1 for the majority of the game until Jacoby Ellsbury singled home Jonny Gomes in the seventh inning tying the game at two. The score remained tied until the tenth inning where Gomes’ sacrifice fly drove in Dustin Pedroia, proving to be the game-winning run.

David Ortiz led the 10-hit attack, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Daniel Nava each had two hits apiece in the win.

Clay Buchholz started the game for the Sox and threw another gem going seven innings allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out nine. His only blemish was a two-run home run off the bat off Pedro Florimon in the third. Andrew Miller, Alex Wilson (win) and Koji Uehara (save) combined to pitch three innings of hitless relief.

The two teams will play Game 2 of their weekend series Saturday night (7:10, NESN) where Ryan Dempster will take to the mound for the Sox and be opposed by Scott Diamond.

What they’ll be saying: It was another good win for the Red Sox, showing their ability to come from behind. The Red Sox did have plenty of chances to put runs on the board, but couldn’t capitalize going 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The team did find a way to overcome that and come away with a win, which was a good sign as it was something they couldn’t do during their recent skid … There isn’t much else to say about Buchholz and his fantastic start. There’s no question he and Jon Lester are one of, if not the best 1-2 tandem in all of baseball. The Sox are now 15-3 in games started by either Lester or Buchholz this season.
