Red Sox bats silenced in 2-0 loss to Orioles

It was a frustrating night offensively for the Red Sox as they could only manage three hits in their 2-0 loss to the Orioles Friday night in Baltimore. The Orioles have taken the first two games of the four-game series and marked the first time the Orioles shut out the Red Sox since 2006.

Starter Ryan Dempster gave the Sox something they desperately needed — innings pitched. Despite the loss Dempster pitched quite well, going 7 2/3 innings allowing two runs on five hits, although he did walk five throwing 122 pitches. Koji Uehara got the final out in the eighth inning, a three pitch strikeout. Dempster allowed a home run to Chris Davis in the second and an RBI single to Adam Jones in the third to account for the two Oriole runs.

The Red Sox only finished with three hits, two coming from Jose Iglesias in the loss.

The four-game series continues tomorrow afternoon (4:10, NESN) as John Lackey will look to put an end to the losing streak and will go up against Freddy Garcia.

What they’ll be saying: There isn’t much to say about this one as it was a frustrating night as the Sox bats were shut down by Orioles starter Chris Tillman, spoiling a good start from Dempster, something that’s happened a great deal this season The silver lining was Dempster was able to save the bullpen, which has been used an extreme amount this past week with a doubleheader and two extra inning games. They should be rested and good to go for the remainder of the series.
