Perhaps seven-time champion Roger Federer lost in the second round of Wimbledon because he wasn’t wearing his colorful kicks.

Federer received orders from Wimbledon officials on Wednesday to change his orange-soled sneakers, according to Reuters. They colorful sneakers breached the all-white rule imposed on the male players. Female athletes will be allowed to wear colorful sneakers.

Wimbledon has the strictest dress code in tennis, and players are required to wear “predominantly” white. According to Reuters, the rule stipulates no sold mass of color, no florescent colors, no bold colors and preferably all white shorts and shirts. Basically, Wimbledon prohibits fun.

“He has been asked to change his shoes,” A Wimbledon spokesman said ahead of the Swiss player’s match against Sergiy Stakhovsky.

Bold colors in women’s finger nails and even underwear has not been ruled out of Wimbledon. So far those are allowed.

Six years ago French tennis player Tatiana Golovin shocked Wimbledon organizers by wearing bright red underpants under he white outfit.

It turns out there’s no law prohibiting that.

“The rules state that players can wear any color underwear they like provided it is no longer than the shorts or skirt. Anything else must be white,” A Wimbledon spokesman said to Reuters.
