The fourth edition of the Mark Sanchez-inspired Jets West camp returns to California this week with a number of Jets players participating in the drills.

Metro New York has learned, as of Wednesday night, Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith was not in attendance at the camp and his teammates were uncertain if the second-round pick would be coming. Smith was extended an offer by Sanchez to attend the camp but as of the close of minicamp he was uncertain if he would attend.

ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini reported on Wednesday afternoon that 15 players were expected at Jets West this year.
Through team sources, Metro New York can report that a number of young wide receivers are in attendance, including Vidal Hazelton, Ryan Spadola, Thomas Mayo and Joseph Collins. Also, second-year wide receiver Jordan White tweeted earlier this week that he was going to be in attendance. In a video White posted on Instagram this morning, wide receiver Stephen Hill and running back Chris Ivory are seen as being in attendance.

In addition, tight end Hayden Smith is not at the camp as he is getting married. Undrafted rookie free agents Chris Pantale and Zach Rogers are also confirmed by Metro New York to not be at Jets West.

The camp, which in years past has typically lasted three days, is usually held near Sanchez’s home of Mission Viejo, Calif. The typical focus is on learning the playbook and drills along with running routes.

Not to be outdone by his teammates on offense, cornerback Antonio Cromartie has held a series of workouts from his California home for members of the secondary.

Wide receiver Stephen Hill has been a part of the workouts along with cornerbacks Kyle Wilson, Royce Adams and Aaron Berry, as well as safety Josh Bush. In addition, wide receiver T.J. Williams, the younger brother of Cromartie, has been a part of the group working out this past week. Williams was a tryout player at Jets rookie minicamp last year and the former Valdosta State wide receiver has also spent time in the CFL.

The series of workouts are being hosted by Cromartie and will lead up to Jets training camp in Cortland, N.Y. in late July. The sessions range from reps and drills on the field to boxing, yoga and even conditioning work. The players are living in housing near their workouts and Cromartie has hired the personal trainer to conduct the daily workouts.
