Legendary Giants coach Bill Parcells knows who he wants to take No. 1 if he is going to start a football team — Lawrence Taylor.

Next month, Parcells will join his former linebacker in the Hall of Fame.

“There are priority positions in this game and quarterback is one of those, so I’d consider that,” Parcells said on a conference call Wednesday ahead of his induction. “But if you’re pinning me down – I’m a little prejudiced – I think I’d take Lawrence Taylor. I know he’s going to be there every Sunday and try his best to win the game.”

Parcells was Taylor’s head coach from 1983 to 1990 with the Giants and defensive coordinator from the start of his career. There have been few greater tandems of coach and defensive star. Parcells won 77 games and two Super Bowls with Taylor terrorizing opposing quarterbacks.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrines its next class on Aug. 3. In addition to Parcells, it will include Larry Allen, Cris Carter, Warren Sapp, Dave Robinson, Curley Culp and Jonathan Ogden.
