Medlen silences Phillies bats, Braves win
The Braves used a strong performance from starting pitcher Kris Medlen to beat the Phillies, 3-1, Tuesday night.
Medlen allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings while striking out five Phillies hitters.
The Braves got all the runs they would need in the game’s first three innings.
Medlen, who evened his record at 10-10, supported his own cause in the second inning, stroking an RBI double to right field off Phillies rookie pitcher Ethan Martin. The Braves (73-47) tacked on two more runs against Martin on a Chris Johnson home run in the third inning.
Domonic Brown drove in the Phillies’ only run with a single in the sixth inning.
The Phillies are now 13 games under .500, at 53-66.
