Patriots report: No surgery for Danny Amendola, Bill Belichick talks Darrelle Revis
On Tuesday the Patriots and their fans received promising news on the injury status’ of their two most prolific pass catchers.
Rob Gronkowski is 50/50 to play on Sunday against Tampa Bay (1 p.m., FOX) while Danny Amendola, the Pats’ leading receiver in Week 1 against Buffalo, will likely not have to have surgery for a sports hernia – which had been feared in recent days.
According to the Boston Herald, Amendola will likely return in “a couple of weeks” as he continues to nurse torn adductors in his hips. Surgery on his sports hernia could have tacked on another month of recovery.
Revis drama in Tampa Bay
Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis was all smiles in Foxboro in August when the Patriots and Bucs held joint practices. He even got a chance to catch up with Pats owner Robert Kraft, which would have been a blasphemous scene in years prior given that Revis was a member of the Jets.
“It was funny, because Mr. Kraft came up to me and said some encouraging words, some good words,” Revis told the Boston Globe last month. “So it just shows how much respect you have with another team, when you’re not on that side of the [rivalry].”
Today Revis is not quite as happy, or so it seems.
FOX Sports reported Tuesday that Revis was unhappy with Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano’s strict nature and the NY Post said that Revis is upset at the zone coverage Schiano has implemented. Revis said later on Tuesday that he is “happy to be a Buccaneer.”
Schiano pal Bill Belichick said Tuesday that he has nothing but respect for the Bucs corner.
“Well at least we only have to play against him once, hopefully,” the Pats head coach said. “I thought [Revis] played well against the Jets with some limited playing time – not limited, but I’d say he played about two-thirds of the game, something like that. Then of course this past week, he played almost every snap against New Orleans. It definitely looks like he’s back and playing well.”
