Foles cleared to play, returns to Eagles practice

Quarterback ready, expects to play Sunday

Nick Foles looked and sounded like a man poised to start.

The Eagles quarterback, making his first comments since before leaving the Dallas game with a concussion, has passed all his testing and is medically cleared to play. Foles split the first-team reps with Matt Barkley at Tuesday’s practice, but don’t read too much into that. There is no exact science to divvying up the reps this early in the week.

Foles was careful not to name himself the starter, reminding reporters it was the coach’s decision, but he sure sounded confident.

“I’m ready. I cleared everything and I feel good,” Foles said. “I felt good out there today. It was a long week last week, but the most important thing was getting healthy. I had a lot of support, and I feel great. It was great to get back out there with the team and I feel like we had a good day today.”

Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur mentioned that the coaching staff wanted to evaluate Foles over the next few days before handing him back the job. Remember, Foles hasn’t practiced with his teammates, or done any physical activity, in nine days.

“We are going to see where [Foles] is at,” Shurmur said. “We haven’t seen him out here since he played in the Dallas game, so we’ve got to see where he’s at. He’s medically cleared, of course, but we just have to see how he responds to the practice reps today.”

Mike Vick also practiced, but there’s a very slim chance he’ll play against Oakland as the team awaits MRI results on his injured hamstring. Barkley, the rookie third-stringer, would be the guy if Foles suffers any kind of setback this week.
