Rondo’s 18 assists leads Celtics past Pistons

In the midst of a few tough games of late, Rajon Rondo got out of his mini-funk in a big way Sunday night dishing out a Celtics season-high 18 assists in the C’s 118-110 win over the Pistons at TD Garden. It was the second straight win for the Celtics.

Aside from Rondo (11 points) a few other Celtics had monster games, especially Kris Humphries who recorded a double-double finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jeff Green led the team in points with 27, while off the bench Kelly Olynyk chipped in with 18. The C’s led by four after the opening quarter and the game was never really in any doubt after that.

Detroit had three players record double-doubles despite the loss in Josh Smith (28 points, 11 rebounds), Greg Monroe (22 points, 14 rebounds) and Andre Drummond (18 points, 22 rebounds).

The Celtics will return to the court Tuesday night (7:00, CSNNE) in Indiana against the Pacers.

What they’ll be saying: It was an impressive game in a number of different categories for the C’s, especially in taking care of the ball. After high turnover totals last week, the Celtics only turned the ball over five times in Sunday’s win. They also had 38 assists on 47 made field goals, a very impressive number. Detroit did control the paint as they finished with 54 rebounds to the Celtics’ 39 and recorded 64 points in the paint. The C’s did get some good news on the injury front as Avery Bradley (ankle) could return as early as the end of the week.
