Lee Corso gets beat up by Bill Murray after picking FSU

Two of the greatest absurdities in film and sports met up in a sublime moment of TV insanity Saturday morning on ESPN’s “College Gameday.”

Bill Murray, legendary comedian and star of such films as “Ghostbusters” and “Caddyshack,” was the guest picker this week as the ESPN crew pulled into Clemson, S.C. The matchup between No. 3 Clemson and No. 5 Florida State would turn into a totally lopsided blowout by the Seminoles, but we got a much more fair fight between Corso and Murray. Literally.

Murray has a home in Charleston, S.C. and is a Clemson fan, so of course he picked the Tigers to win.

Corso, not so much. He was a standout player at Florida State (yes, really), where he played cornerback, roomed with teammate Burt Reynolds (yes, that Burt Reynolds) and graduated in 1957.

So of course he picked the Noles and came out onto the set in full Chief Osceola gear — headdress, war paint, spear, etc. And that meant a very angry Murray. After watching him dance around on stage for a bit, he bodyslammed Corso onto a patch of turf and started to unleash his best array of pro wrestling ground attacks.

They cut away before Kirk Herbstreit could administer CPR, but presumably Corso survived the attack.
