Chase Utley’s game-tying, pinch-hit home run in the top of the eighth was for naught as Phillies relievers were unable to keep a potent Cincinnati offense off the board in the bottom half of the frame.

Utley, hitting for starter Cliff Lee, who gave up two runs over seven innings, drove a Bronson Arroyo pitch over the wall in right-center field to tie the game up, 2-2, with two outs in the eighth inning of Monday’s game.

But the Reds (6-7) quickly rebounded, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth off relievers Jeremy Horst and Mike Adams.

Horst allowed two Reds to reach base to start the Reds’ eighth–a swinging bunt by Derrick Robinson and a bloop double by Zack Cozart–with the lone out recorded on a sacrifice bunt.  After Horst  intentionally walked 2010 National League MVP Joey Votto to load the bases, Brandon Phillips delivered a two-run single off Adams to put the Reds back on top, 4-2.

Reds closer Aroldis Chapman pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up the save.

Phillies center fielder Ben Revere made one of the best plays you’ll see all year in the second inning, robbing Todd Frazier of extra bases on a line drive in the gap in right-center.

The Phillies (6-7) and Reds play again Tuesday in Cincinnati. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
