Phillies snap losing streak behind another strong Lee outing

The Phillies really needed to stop the bleeding.

They had just the right man for the job take the mound for them in Minneapolis Thursday night.

Cliff Lee improved to 8-2 on the year, working seven strong innings, in the Phillies’ 8-2 win over the Twins. The win snapped the team’s five-game losing skid.

The Phillies had won five games in a row, and climbed over the .500 mark for the first time all year, going into last Friday’s game at Milwaukee. The team proceeded to drop three straight to the Brewers, then lost the first two of the three-game set against the Twins.

Lee allowed just two runs on three hits through seven innings, but it looked like his strong effort might have been wasted, as the Phillies trailed, 2-1, heading into the eighth.

Ben Revere scored the game-winning run for the Phillies in the eighth. The speedy Revere, who was 4 for 5 on the night, was able to score on a chopper to first base off the bat of Jimmy Rollins.

Michael Young’s RBI single had tied the game earlier in the inning.

The Phillies pounded out 16 hits in the game, but left 16 men on base.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his 12th save of the season.
