As if the performance-enhancing drug cloud around Alex Rodriguez couldn’t get any worse, news broke Wednesday that the Yankee third baseman met with disgraced Biogenesis founder Anthony Bosch during last year’s ALCS.

The Miami New Times reported Rodriguez and Bosch met in Detroit during the series, though what happened in the meeting is not clear.

The paper, which broke the scandal surrounding Bosch and his distribution of performance-enhancing drugs to professional athletes, spoke to former Biogenesis employee Porter Fischer, who made the most recent allegations against Rodriguez. Fischer said he spoke with Bosch about money he was owed immediately following Bosch’s return from Detroit.

Rodriguez was previously named in reports as having received an assortment of drugs from Bosch as recently as early 2012. According to records from the clinic, he was provided with human-growth hormone (HGH).

The third baseman missed all of August 2012 with a broken hand and struggled so much in the postseason manager Joe Girardi was forced to bench him against Detroit. He finished the 2012 postseason batting 3-for-25 (.120) with no RBIs or extra-base hits.

Rodriguez has missed the entire 2013 season as he recovers from a second hip surgery in January. He was expected back this season, after the All-Star break, but he has yet to begin baseball activities.

He has also been the subject of suspension rumors, as MLB will reportedly seek to ban Rodriguez for 100 games as a result of his connection to Biogenesis. MLB continues to interview those connected to the clinic, including Bosch and Fischer, to make a determination as to whether Rodriguez — and other stars such as Ryan Braun and Melky Cabrera — will be suspended.
