Red Sox offense erupts in blowout win over Giants

After suffering one of the more frustrating losses of the season Tuesday night the Red Sox bounced back in a big way Wednesday afternoon, belting out 12 hits and 12 runs in their 12-1 drubbing of the Giants in San Francisco. The Red Sox took two-of-three from the Giants in the three-game set.

Jacoby Ellsbury and Shane Victorino led the offense collecting three hits apiece, thus contributing half of the teams hits. Dustin Pedroia added two, while the bottom of the order did their part by driving in runs as the No.’s 5-8 hitters had nine of the 12 RBI, led by three from Stephen Drew on a three-run home run in the seventh. Will Middlebrooks continued to swing his hot bat since his return as he ripped a two-run homer in the second.

Red Sox starter Felix Doubront was outstanding as the left-hander went eight innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out three. Needing work out of the bullpen with the off-day on Thursday, closer Koji Uehara recorded the final three outs of the game.

The Red Sox will be off Thursday before opening up a weekend series against the Dodgers on Friday (10:10, NESN). John Lackey will get he ball for the Sox and go up against Ricky Nolasco.

What they’ll be saying: It was a much needed offensive outburst from the Sox as they haven’t been the same offense they were in the first half of the year of late. The first three hitters in the lineup, Ellsbury, Victorino and Pedroia went a combined 8-for-13 in the win, which is something they will look to continue coming up … Doubront bounced back from two poor starts in his last two outings with one of his best of the season. He pitched just four innings each in his last two outings, allowing a combined nine runs.
