New Phillies broadcast team brings energy
New Phillies’ color commentators Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs chatted with the media Monday, two days prior to their first broadcast, Wednesday at 1 p.m.
And just as if they were in the bullpen warming up, or on deck circle taking cuts, the duo was anxious to start their next baseball endeavor.
“When I got the opportunity to get the job and I was at the mike, I started to get a little nervous and my stomach was rolling around a little bit,” Stairs told the Phillies’ website. “It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be a blast.”
Moyer and Stairs will join Tom McCarthy for 30 games as a trio, and will individually appear in 109 and 108 games respectively, including spring training.
And for Moyer, it is a chance to join the ranks of the local broadcasters he grew up listening to, like Richie Ashburn and Harry Kalas.
“I hear their voices as we all do as fans,” Moyer said. “Whether it was an exciting game or just their voice or how they talked about the game or broadcast the game. I don’t see any way that I’m going to try to emulate those people. I think they were all great in their own respect.”
