MLB video highlights: Red Sox bounce back against Twins, 9-4

One night after a tough walk-off loss to the Twins, the Red Sox responded with a convincing 9-4 win Wednesday night in Minnesota once again led by slugger David Ortiz. The nine runs were a season-high for the Red Sox.

Ortiz went 3-for-5 with two RBI, including two solo home runs marking the second multi-homer game in as many nights. He was the last Red Sox player to do so, which occurred July 4-5, 2003. Also having good offensive nights were Grady Sizemore (two RBI) and Xander Bogaerts who each went 2-for-4 in the win. The Sox jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings and never looked back as they scored runs in six of the nine innings.

Felix Doubront gave the Red Sox one of his better outings of the year as the left-hander went 6 1/3 innings allowing just one run while scattering seven hits and striking out five. Burke Badenhop allowed an unearned run in 1 2/3 innings, while Edward Mujica allowed a two-run home run in the ninth to account for the final two Twins runs.

Twins starter Kevin Correla went just four innings allowing five runs on nine hits to take the loss.

The three-game series will conclude tomorrow afternoon (1:10, NESN) when Clay Buchholz is opposed by Phil Hughes.

What they’ll be saying: After sitting in neutral for much of the first month plus a few weeks to open the season, the Red Sox are finally getting into gear as they have won seven of their last ten games and have scored five or more runs in four straight games. The Sox have been able to start getting hits with runners in scoring position, including going 5-for-10 Wednesday night … It was an impressive start for Doubront holding the Twins to just one run, an offense that came into the game averaging 4.76 runs a game. Doubront has quietly gone six straight starts allowing three earned runs or less.
